So we were attending the fourth anniversary celebrations of our Group at Lahari resorts and my team mate was in one of the dance programs (have you observed that we used to spell program as programme during our childhood??? computer age erodes spellings toooo :P) and like every other loyal friend i concentrated only on her dance rather than teh group... (she was the best in teh group of course)... so i got thinking..
whenever we see a dance program (live ) we concentrate only on one person.. the one who is the best in the group and not on teh group as a whole. and even though the best dancer is placed last in the group due to any reason (tallest of all, new comer to the group, partialilty blah blah) people tend to focus their attention on her / him only....
this shows that no matter what happens no matter where you are in the line of display, if you are talented, you are bound to get noticed...
talent can never be ignored or hidden....

enlightened...

so my friend and me were solving this puzzle.. some random alphabets are given and you have to make words out of it.. each word should contain more than four alphabets..
the alphabets given we I, i, e, c,o, n in a circular pattern and V in the middle.. so all the words should have "V" in them...
the rating was as follows:
7 words - average
9 words - good
10 words - outstanding

combined efforts of 15 minutes got us 9 words.. i thought good is OK.. that one word which will make us outstanding will take time to find out...

that is i guess the difference between good and outstanding... time and patience and the zeal to go that one step ahead.. to transform good to outstanding :)

i hope with this post i will start blogging regularly "(fingers crossed)

So True!!!!

So i was attending this WIN intiative at my office.. Women Initiative Network. obviosuly all female participants. The session waqs held by colleagues / managers who work in the US. And the topcs which were discussed ranged from how to be aggressive at the work place to the variety of fabrics available at Hyderabad.
The speakers had work experience ranging from 5 years to 25 years. the topic of discussion was how does one manage with kids and a career? Wont the career take a back seat when you have kids? atleast till the kids join school? how do you deal with that?

the answer i lovedd was:
we work for almost 40 years. Doesnt it seem more than ok to put your career on hold for some 5 years? It is not even putting it on hold.. More like going slow and enjoying personal life.. it is more like forgoing your promotion for one year to enjoy your promotion in your personal life... once the kids are at school you can catch up with others and get that promotion and a few more

it is sooooooo true... yes we are equally competitive (with respect to men ;) ).. yes we desire recognition and promotion but somehow i really felt what she said was soo true.
after all its just work.. there is much more to life than work isnt it?

may be some women feel this is a losers attitude... but this way happiness is achieved both personally and professionally as well... dont you think?

TWISTED LOGIC - I

so after sooooooooo long i was sharpening a pencil.. and i got this electrifying thought

our brains need sharpening just like the pencil... the more you sharpen, the more pointed the lead is.... but does it also mean the more you sharpen the more the pencil becomes smaller and finally we will not be able to use it for even writing - the more you sharp it.. to write neatly, the more sooner the pencil gets smaller... so did the pencil serve its purpose completely? :P


does that mean that ignorance is bliss?

a theory on life and friends...

life is like a sine wave ups and downs... it is not happiness all the way... neither it is full of sadness... like the sine wave it keeps oscillating between happiness, contentment, worrying, being sad, and being angry...
and continuing this thought forward, our relations are also similar... we are pleased, we are dissatisfied, we are elated, we are irritated ... relations could either be parents, spouse, siblings, relatives.. etc
i am still wondering as to what the friendship wave would look like..???

any ideas anyone?

when i become very very rich, i would like to switch careers and become an archealogist (looks i have to start right from learning the correct spelling).... atleast then during work all i have to do keep on digging.. (which according to all the novels i read which involved archealogy)... at least it will not involve any other Human Being and thereby eliminating any chance of politics....

New Beginnings!!!

i wanted to go back to school again today morning.. This rain made me feel like that... i wanted to get all dressed up, go to the bus stop only to be told that there would be no school today because it was raining heavily... YIIIPPPEEEEEEEEE.... and come back home and happily read a novel or just chit chat :D

rains are soooooooooo good... i love them... its like the rain has cleaned up the whole earth... like a clean slate - for a new beginning...i feel like life is giving one more chance to live and enjoy every time i see the lushhhhhh green..... and the most powerfully divine smell of water on mud..........i love it allllllllllllllllllllllllll :D


i know i know its still summer and i have to wait for 4 more months for the rain..but not that i hate summers.. i love them tooooooooooooooooooo

PS: i lost touch with writing, so this is a meeeeeek effort to start writing again..

have any one of you seen this movie "Blast from the Past"? It has Brandon Fraser (slurrrpp) starring in it.. Its all about how the hero (Fraser) goes on a mission to find out a non-mutant wife for himself, after his entire family shift to a bomb shelter after a bomb scare, for 35 years.
cute movie....

i just want to do that... go underground i mean.. i dont know till when... i am so deeply disillusioned with what is happening around us (hehehe.. sounds like a politician ;) )...
i just want to get rid of this insecure feeling i have now a days.. too many gory events happening all at once.. what if there is someone like the guy in Noida around us?
generally it does get late by the time i get down the office bus..and it a good 1 KM from the bus stop till my home. i usually take an auto...or walk sometimes... i was never ever scared before as i am now... i hate this feeling actually.. susupecting everyone.. looking at everyone with red eyes or someone who is comparitively dark with suspicion... its just not me...

one of my very very good friend, P says whenever he sees a Ram Gopal Verma movie, he feels if we can really live here in India peacefully. or should we move out somewhere where the law is more strict... but i was just wondering... it was the US and other developed countries who were supposed to have such psychopaths... we just had murderers / rapists -turned politicians...
i thought we were comparitively safe... but just like that in one day all the confidence is lost... poof... vanished into God knows what...

there is absolutely no point in pointing out fingers at any police or any other department.. When one of the ministers said "such small things happen", we very well know what would be the outcome..
i feel is there any point in even hanging Saddan Hussain? as in has anyone learnt a lesson from that? i guess the only lesson people learnt was that the so-called safest place in teh whole world had allowed the entire event to be recorded on a cell camera...what security..
Instead it is people like the Noida buggers who should be shot at sight / hanged in front of the whole country .. they should serve as an example to anyone else even thinking of doing such a thing.. but no.. why would the police even do that? they want the criminals to undergo thousands of tests.... and later set them free.. to kill more people... i just dont understand law...

how come the police reacted to teh kidnapping of Adobe whoever's child and got him released within 24 hours but did not do anything in this case?

how safe are we really?

Brand Extension!!!!

Warning: actually i started out to write something else.. but i dont knw what i really wrote.. so go ahead read at your own risk ;)

its one of the three dry days (i didnt know that such word existed till yesterday when B enlightened me). every intersection on the road would have his photo with a garland. all the patriotic songs would be played... all the TV channels would telecast movies like "sarfarosh", "Roja", "gandhi", etc, etc. All the news channels would have a review of what a great person he was and his contribution to our democratic ocuntry. and this year's added attraction is the Munnabhai "Gandhigiri" sequel. (confession time: i still didnt watch the movie.. shame shame to me). and last but not the least, all the news papers would debate on weather his statements and his actions are as relevant as they were 60 years ago... or weather peace is the solution.. blah blah........

I guess the news paper people now a days arent getting much of news to publish. i feel, what they do is - they just take a plain white paper and let their imagination run wilddddddddd... and then they publish that BULLS_ _ _ on the first page 8-). The other day one news paper, as usual didnt know what to publish to make that edition sell. So they came out with a survey..
Seems the result of the survey gave ceratin conclusions:
1. Seems that if Gandhiji was not in as many scenes as he was shown in Munnabhai sequel, the movie would have had more collections, than what it is having now..
the main theme of the movie being the so called "Gandhigiri", i just dont see how the movie would have been a bigger hit, if Circuit was given a Plumper role.

Agreed that may be a few of his principles may not have much of an impact today.. but may be we should consider the extension of his principles... which could be of high importance for us today..
Definitions have to be changed.. at the bottom level, may be peace is not our concern anymore... Not many of us are really bothered about peace and blah blah as long as all our loved ones are safe. as long as we have weekends to enjoy without a curfew or something like that...

Freedom, i guess has a completely different meaning now than what is was 60 years ago. We are no more fighting for freedom from a foreign enemy. i guess our definition of freedom is doing what we want to do.. the way we want to do.. no compromise is our defintion of living our life...
But because we are social animals and all that, we do have ceratin responsibility towards our society - which more or less is allowing us to have the kind of freedom we want.
i dont know about other cities in the country, but my beautiful city, Hyderabad, has to take up some of these responsibilities pretty soon.. else we are nearing the chaotic situation of High-pollution-major traffic jams, etc, etc.....

One of our major negligence is the way we behave at traffic lights... we cant even wait for 30 seconds for the light to turn green. One of my colleagues, who is from a different city, says, Red is just another colour here at Hyderabad.. looks like all of us have collectively bunked the class where they taught us that Red is for stop and Green is for go...

and the other major concern is our total disregard of cleanliness... Once we had gone to Nagarjun Sagar.. a beautifulllllllllllllllll place, dam actually... and we were standing in the queue waiting for our chance to purchase the tickets... One lady there, also bunked the class which said that standing in queue to purchase something is much more easier and quicker than joining the crowd in between and making a huuuuuugeeeeeeee scene about it. and she had the guts to talk about no one in India following the queue system.. and she goes on cribbing about the cleanliness factor... then we all got into the boat which would take us to a beautiful museum. and surprise suprise guess who was the only one who threw somewhre around 10 covers of lays chips into the water?

I guess rather than cribbing about all this i should start implementing these... because my defintion of peace and harmony has become "coming home without getting involved in encounter with the traffic police, or without getting involved in a major tarffic jam or not getting invovled in a freak road accident"

People may say that his ideals / principles have really lost value today.. but what i feel is, we gotta look at them from a different angle... because, we gotta give our future generation a chance to live as happily as we are...and that was what he had achieved, gave us a chance to live, dream and realise those dreams.

Subramanyam Sir : anyone who stays in my locality knows him.. if any one of us learnt maths and found it not-so-greeky, it was solely due to him.. when i used to come down to Hyderabad for my summer holidays, i used to go to him to learn maths...
if not for him i would never ever have learnt trigonometry


Sujatha Mam: she didnt teach me any subject.. she was my neighbour... and she was the one who encouraged me to take part in all the quiz competitions.. and also prepared me to face all the quizzes :)

Krishna Rao Sir: this sir had one artificial eye. he was our maths sir.. 9th class.. i really really hated all that maths in 9th class.. but thanks to him i did manage to get very very good marks

Subramanyam Sir: Maths again..tution teacher in Delhi.. he taught us the best and the easiest way to solve all those 10th class maths problems.. i got 93 :) YAYYYYY

Naresh Sir : Inter(+2 as some people call it) Lecturer. Chemistry. he made chemistry subject really really interesting even without Sushmita Sen (Main Hoo Na, remember?)

Suresh Sir: Physics Lecturer. i HATE physics.. all those laws... he was one cute lecturer... all the girls in the college were OOHHH AAAHHH over him...
in the introductory class itself, becuase i was chatting away to glory with my bench mate, he made me stand

Rajesh Sir: chemistry sir again.. i used to go for tutions when i was in my intermediate to a place called Tetrahedron. he used to take our first class (6:00 AM).. the class was one of the livliest classes ive attended till date.. the best part about him was the fact that all the students were comfortable with him... may be becuase he was only 5 or 6 years elder to us..

Chandrasekhar Sir: physics sir... i guess i owe my physics marks in inter (56 / 60) to him, him and only him.. but i still HATE Physics

KP Sir : ORGANIC Chemistry i LOVE the subject.. he had a knack of explaining this subject while many others found it very difficult to even explain the basic of the subject. it was like he treated all the carbon and hydrogen and oxygen molecules with reverance.. i dedicate my 58 / 60 amrks in chemistry to him :)

Parthasaradhy Sir : Integrated Circuits (IC) sir. he was the best lecturer in our engineering college. and he was one lecturer who posed questions out of the text book. and made us all design new circuits :)

Suresh Sir : MBA. he gave our class our first taste of one of the most beautiful subjects - marketing. He taught the entire subject in examples and case studies... and well, he divided our class into various groups - and thats how i met the most creative person ive come across till date :)A special thanks to Suresh sir :D


i thank each and every one of them who have taught me at various stages of life..
i am what i am majorly because of them..

Continental, Chinese or Italian?

ok. this is not my food post. that is yet to come.
this is a post related to my profession. HR, that is. now as far as i remember, retention of employees is also a responsibilty of the HR. even though the employees, once they join, they just forget that there is a department called HR unless they want to crib about their salary.

From ESOP's (i know, i know they are out of fashion..) sponsoring higher education, what not the companies do to retain the employees. two of my friends got placed in a very good company.

i dont know if i can name the companies, so i am not taking any names... now this company pays for everything... from accomodation to food to travel.. but the best part is it also pays for their laundry.. heheheh. and that is mentioned in the offer letter booklet. i find it to be sooo funny.

according to any company's belief, the company cannot actually repay the employee for their contribution towards the growth of the organization. so all these i.e., salary, perks, bonus, etc, etc are just a way of repaying (though not completely) the employees.

one "one among the top ten IT companies in India" had come to our MBA school for campus placements. The HR was giving the Pre Placement Talk as usual. now he was showing us all the facilities which the company had. One of them was the Hitech-with-highly-trained-trainer-GYM. the HR guy said" like every other company, we have a gym. not that people really workout there.. when all the companies offer similar kind of perks,salaries, etc such unnecessary things would be the only distinguishing factors" is it really true??? have we got sooo much choice that we just fall for such things??

i know.. i know.... some people really make use of the gym. many in my company also do. but i have also observed that they go to the gym as long as their work schedule is relatively ok.. as in not at all hectic. when people are between projects.. how many people are really serious about working out?

have we observed our eating habits??? now basically most of the employees are not localites. most of them eat at the office cafeteria. the menu is always some Paneer-Non Veg stuff... daily. every day.

and the stupidity quotient of the companies keep increasing. One example i can think of is a very famous company - one of the dream company of many aspiring IT people. Guess what?? they occupy one floor in the building. and apart from the usual Barista, etc, they have their own kitchen. Apart from the usual lunch ( they have a chef who cooks continental, chinese, etc, etc daily) the following is a small list of the other items available
1. Kaju, and all the exotic Dry fruits...
2. sweets, sweets and more sweets.. full of ghee, and whatever
3. chocolates.. rich.. full of fat
4. badam milk
i dont know if SALAD is present...

is this is one way of retention? offering sooooo much of food to stuff yourself ? if yes, is it really healthy? are these companies setting good examples??

isnt it a paradox of sorts? we have a hitech-gym on one hand and such delicious fattening food (daily) on the other. the food is just arm's length away... where as we have to walk in order to go to the gym..

are all these facilities really important? how many people really choose a company because of such facilities?

Soumya's opinion on the "what goes up - comes down" theory

as we have observed, almost everything on EARTH obeys this principle...
but guess what tada tadaaaaaa
there is one thing which generally (99% of times) doesnt obey this principle... SALARY

the only thing on Earth (i can think of only this) which always goes up...and never comes down...
